Our Story

At Kaylee Cornish Rex, our journey has been one of family, love, and perseverance. What began as a way to support our daughter has turned into something truly special.

Our daughter, who faced challenges with ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, learning disabilities, and being nonverbal, found a life-changing connection when she met a Cornish Rex cat at the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA). That spark of interest brought joy and opened doors we never thought possible. The affectionate and playful nature of the Cornish Rex gave her confidence, helping her engage with the world in new ways.

As parents, we embraced her passion and encouraged her every step of the way. This journey has brought our family closer and shown us the power of love, resilience, and the right kind of support.

Kaylee Cornish Rex is more than a family business; it’s a testament to how small moments can inspire big changes. We’re forever grateful to the CFA and the Cornish Rex breed for bringing such light into our lives.

We’re also grateful to now spark that same joy by bringing Cornish Rex kittens to new loving families. Learn more about our story and how this adventure continues to shape our family.

The Cornish Rex is a distinctive and unique cat breed known for its striking appearance, playful personality, and affectionate nature. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the breed:

Physical Characteristics

  • Coat: The Cornish Rex has a soft, short, and wavy coat that feels like velvet. Unlike most cats, they lack the typical outer guard hairs, which gives them their unique texture.

  • Body: They are slender, athletic, and elegant, with long legs and an arched back. Despite their delicate appearance, they are quite muscular and agile.

  • Head and Features: The breed has a small, egg-shaped head with large, expressive ears and high cheekbones, giving them a regal and inquisitive look.

  • Size: Medium-sized, typically weighing between 5-10 pounds, with females often being slightly smaller than males.

Personality and Temperament

  • Affectionate: Cornish Rex cats are incredibly loving and crave human attention. They often form strong bonds with their families and enjoy being held and cuddled.

  • Playful: Known as the "clown of the cat world," they remain kitten-like throughout their lives. They love interactive play, toys, and games of fetch.

  • Social: These cats thrive on interaction with humans and other pets, making them excellent companions for families or homes with multiple animals.

  • Intelligent: The breed is highly curious and quick to learn, often figuring out how to open doors or explore new places.

Care Requirements

  • Coat Maintenance: Their short coat is low-shedding and easy to maintain with occasional brushing. However, their lack of outer hair means they may be more sensitive to cold and sun exposure.

  • Diet: Like all cats, they require a high-protein diet tailored to their age and activity level.

  • Activity: Cornish Rex cats are active and benefit from having plenty of toys, climbing structures, and interactive playtime.

  • Health: Generally healthy, but regular vet check-ups are essential. Responsible breeders test for genetic conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

Interesting Facts

  1. The breed originated in Cornwall, England, in the 1950s when a kitten named Kallibunker was born with a unique curly coat due to a natural mutation.

  2. Cornish Rex cats are known for their warmth—they often seek out cozy spots or snuggle close to their humans.

  3. Their low-maintenance coat makes them a popular choice for people who want a "hypoallergenic" cat, though no cat is completely allergy-free.

Why Choose a Cornish Rex?

If you’re looking for a cat that’s full of personality, affection, and charm, the Cornish Rex is an excellent choice. Their quirky antics, loving nature, and unique appearance make them a standout breed and a joy to have as a part of your family.
